(Football News) Ousmane Dembele has officially joined Ligue 1 champions Paris St Germain on a five-year contract, according to announcements from both clubs on Saturday.

Barcelona revealed that they had successfully negotiated Dembele’s transfer to PSG for a sum of 50.4 million euros ($55.16 million).

Having extended his contract with the Spanish champions just last year until June 2024, Dembele, aged 26, embarked on a new chapter in his career. During his time with Barcelona, he amassed three LaLiga titles and two Spanish Cups over the span of six years.

“I’m thrilled to become a part of Paris St Germain and I’m eager to step onto the field for my new team,” Dembele expressed on the club’s official website. “I’m hopeful that my growth as a player will continue here.”

Commencing his professional journey at the French side Stade Rennais, Dembele made his debut in the 2015-16 season before progressing to the Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund.

His transfer to Barcelona in 2017 marked a significant milestone, involving a fee of 105 million euros with additional incentives, on a five-year agreement. During his tenure, Dembele recorded 40 goals and 43 assists in a total of 185 appearances.

With 37 international caps, he contributed to France’s World Cup victory in 2018 and their appearance in the final in December.

Dembele joins newly acquired talents such as Marco Asensio, Milan Skriniar, Lee Kang-in, Hugo Ekitike, Lucas Hernandez, and Manuel Ugarte at PSG. The club made a managerial change in July, dismissing Christophe Galtier and appointing former Barcelona and Spain coach Luis Enrique.

As PSG sets out to secure their 12th Ligue 1 title – a record-extending achievement – and to contend for the elusive Champions League trophy, they initiate their title defense against Lorient at home on Sunday.

Nasser Al-Khelaifi, PSG’s chairman, remarked, “We are thrilled to welcome Ousmane Dembele to Paris St Germain, where he will play an integral and dedicated role for our team. We take pride in adding another French World Cup winner to Paris St Germain, marking the onset of a promising new era for our club.”
