Daniil Medvedev takes on Thiago Seyboth Wild in the French Open

The French Open's opening round will feature Thiago Seyboth Wild versus second seed Daniil Medvedev

(Tennis news) Medvedev has had a fantastic season thus far, winning 39 of 44 games and collecting five trophies, including two Masters 1000 victories. The last time the Russian competed, he was the third seed at the Italian Open. He defeated Emil Ruusuvuori, Bernabe Zapata Miralles, Alexander Zverev, Yannick Hanfmann, and Stefanos Tsitsipas on route to the final.

He met Holger Rune here, and won 7-5, 7-5 to win his first clay-court championship and fifth overall in 2023. With this triumph, Medvedev moved up to second place in the ATP rankings. This season, Thiago Seyboth Wild has primarily played on the ATP Challenger tour and has won at Buenos Aires and Vina del Mar. Additionally, he participated in two ATP 250 events’ qualifying rounds.

The Brazilian beat Antoine Bellier 7-6(1), 6-1 to advance to the French Open qualifying rounds. After that, he defeated Dominik Koepfer 6-1, 6-1 and Ricardo Berankis 6-2, 6-7(4), 6-2 to advance to the French Open main event for the first time in his career.

H2H

The head-to-head between Daniil Medvedev and Thiago Syboth is 0-0. They both will face each other for the first time. It is expected to be an exciting encounter.

Predictions

Given his previous successes on clay, Medvedev will start the contest as the clear favourite to win. The Russian will try to serve as many of his 29 aces from his four matches at the French Open last year against Seyboth Wild. It will be helpful to have his counterpunching prowess, baseline game, and reliable groundstrokes.

To have a chance against Medvedev, Seyboth Wild will need to be at the top of his game. During the French Open qualifying rounds, the Brazilian hit 97 winners compared to 44 unforced errors. Despite the fact that the latter number was substantially lower than the former, he still cannot afford to commit too many errors.

The serve of Seyboth Wild is also respectable; during the qualifying rounds, it delivered 17 aces. If he wants to compete with the Russian, he will try to get as many free points as he can. Overall, Medvedev has been in excellent shape recently and should have no issue defeating the Brazilian.

Predictions: Daniil Medvedev to win the fourth set. (3-1)
