Cristiano Ronaldo wins Premier League player of the month as Mikel Arteta wins Manager of the month award

(Football news) Ronaldo and Arteta picked up the big awards as Andros Townsend won the goal of the month for the month of September. Ronaldo scored three crucial goals in the month of September to keep United in the title hunt, on the other hand Arteta won three matches in September to recover after a horrible start to the season.

Cristiano Ronaldo won his fifth Player of the Month award, after winning three successive league titles with Manchester United he left for Real Madrid in 2009 but after a gap of 13 years the prodigal son returned to make an instant impact in the club. The gap of 13 years between Player of the Month prizes is the longest in the history of the Premier League since he last won it in March 2008. Ronaldo enjoyed a dream debut as he scored two goals in a 4-1 victory over Newcastle United and he then went to score the equaliser against West Ham when they came from behind to win 2-1. He topped a six man shortlist which included Joao Cancelo, Rudiger, Saint Maximin, Salah and Ismaila Sarr.

Ronaldo after winning the award, "Proud to be elected Player Of The Month among so many great players in the Premier League. Thanks to all my team-mates at Man United couldn't have done it without them. Let’s keep working hard and the results will come!"

After a tough start to the season Arteta took Arsenal on a three match winning streak against Norwich, Burnley and Tottenham. The Spaniard won his first Manager of the month award as he helped Arsenal bounce back after a horrendous start to the season, his performance against Tottenham was the highlight as they won 3-1 against their north London rivals. Arteta beat the likes of Pep, Klopp, Graham Potter and Dean Smith for the award.

Arteta after winning the award said, “It's a great feeling, it means we went on a good run and won matches, but for me it's much more than that. It's about the people involved, the people who work with me and how grateful I am to have them. The level of trust, implication and passion that they show working alongside me every day, that gives me the strength and then the belief in the players that they can do it, and that they are good enough to win matches and that we believe in them."

Andros Townsend won the September goal of the month for his spectacular long range strike against Burnley. The Everton player became the first player in the history of the Premier League to win the award three times since it was introduced in August 2016. Townsend brilliantly curled a 30 yard shot past Nick Pope as his strike helped the Toffees fight back from 1-0 down to win 3-1.

After winning the award Towsend said “it was incredible, they had just scored not long before that, so they went 1-0 up and we scored three in a six-minute period. Honestly, the atmosphere was electric, especially the fact we've had no fans for 18 months. That was up there with one of the best atmospheres I've ever witnessed, in that period when we went from 1-0 down to 3-1 up and cruising."

“My last goal from outside the box was May 2019, so it's been a while. All of a sudden I get a compilation of my goals, a lot of them outside the box, and within a few days I score a cracker. Confidence, belief, visualisation. Honestly, it must play a part in what happened against Burnley."
