(Cricket news) India won the ODI series against West Indies 3-0. This was the 1st time that India inflicted a whitewash on the West Indies and it was also the first time Rohit Sharma took charge of the team after becoming ODI captain. India recovered well after a disastrous tour of South Africa although it has to be said that the West Indies were very poor especially with the bat.
For the first time since 2017, Virat Kohli ended an ODI series without a single 50+ score. New skipper Rohit Sharma said that despite not getting a century, Kohli has batted well and the team management is not worried about his form. Kohli does have a century drought but by no means is he lacking runs as he is crossing the 50+ mark consistently. It is just a matter of before we see the best of Virat Kohli and the team management will be hoping that it comes in the T20I series.
India's middle order was the biggest positives as KL Rahul, Suryakumar Yadav, Deepak Hooda, Rishabh Pant and Washington Sundar all chipped in with crucial runs. The middle order of India usually doesn't get much batting time due to their top order's dominance. In this series, the middle order bailed the team out in difficult times. There is a lot of healthy competition for the middle order places which is very good for Indian cricket.
Indian seamers had a very good tournament with Prasidh Krishna and Mohammed Siraj leading the attack. Deepak Chahar and Shardul Thakur also chipped in with crucial wickets. With Mohammed Shami and Jasprit Bumrah rested the Indian pace battery showed it's depth. The performance is an indication that it will be very difficult for Bhuvneshwar Kumar to find his way back in the squad.
Even though the pacers were predominant due to the conditions, the spinners did chip in. Washington Sundar played really well in the first game but was just a tad bit off in the 2nd one even though he bowled a match winning over towards the end. Yuzvendra Chahal won the man of the match in the 1st game and bowled well in the 2nd one as well. Kuldeep Yadav played the 3rd game marking his international comeback.
Rohit Sharma and Rahul Dravid still have a lot of things to sort out in terms of balance and personnel before the World Cup next year. Ravindra Jadeja, Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami are three players who will definitely be back in the mix hopefully in the Sri Lanka series. Healthy competition is always beneficial for the team but it is crucial for India to try out their best line-up before the World Cup a few times.
