Iyer, Pant, Prasidh and Siraj star as India defeat dull West Indies by 96 runs

(Cricket news) India defeated the West Indies by 96 runs to complete the whitewash in the 3-match ODI series. Captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and elected to bat first. India made 4 changes with Shikhar Dhawan, Deepak Chahar, Kuldeep Yadav and Shreyas Iyer replacing KL Rahul, Deepak Hooda, Shardul Thakur and Yuzvendra Chahal. West Indies on the other hand brought in Hayden Walsh Jr for Akeal Hossein as Kieron Pollard didn't recover in time.

Alzarri Joseph got the Windies off to a brilliant start as he got rid of Rohit Sharma in the 4th over and dismissed Virat Kohli for a duck in the same over. Shreyas Iyer and Rishabh Pant steadied the ship with their left and right hand combination. The pair added 110 runs and set the tone of the innings. Iyer fell at 80 runs while Pant was dismissed on 56. Washington Sundar and Deepak Chahar added some runs late on to get India to a total of 265 which was the highest total of the series. Jason Holder was the pick of the bowlers as he took 4 wickets for 34 runs from his 8 overs.

West Indies never looked like chasing the total. Apart from Nicholas Pooran and Odean Smith, no player got past the 30 run mark. Prasidh Krishna and Mohammed Siraj both picked up 3 wickets each. Kuldeep Yadav on his international comeback picked up 2 wickets and so did Deepak Chahar. The track complimented the seamers really well and Kuldeep chipped in well with his wrist spin. Indian seamers got really good lateral movement and bounce off the surface which the Windies batters couldn't deal with. West Indies once again failed to bat for 50 overs as they have done all series.

After a disappointing tour of South Africa, India came back well despite missing Ravindra Jadeja, Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami. India will now shift focus to the T20Is but it has been a very good start to the Rohit Sharma era. West Indies have a lot of work to do before the ODI World Cup but it doesn't look good for them at the moment.
