The last over of the match was nothing short of chaotic with the captain calling the players back and DC coach Pravin Ambre ran onto the field to argue with the umpire. Rishabh Pant had won the toss and elected to bowl first as both teams were unchanged.

The first innings couldn't have gone more perfectly for Rajasthan Royals as they were 222/2 after their 20 overs. Jos Buttler's dream run continued as he scored 116 off 65 balls. The innings containing 9 fours and 9 sixes was his 3rd ton of the IPL season. He is now 1 century away from matching Virat Kohli's record of 4 centuries in an IPL campaign. Devdutt Padikkal provided excellent support with his 35 ball 54 hitting 7 fours and 2 sixes. Skipper Sanju Samson smashed 5 fours and 3 sixes as he scored 46 off 19 balls. Khaleel Ahmed and Mustafizur Rahman were the wicket takers as all the bowlers were expensive. DC were abysmal on the field as they dropped a few catches and there were a few midfields as well.

Chasing 223 DC got off to a good start as David Warner scored 28 off 14 balls and Prithvi Shaw got a 27 ball 47. Rishabh Pant played a good knock of 44 off 24 balls which consisted of 4 fours and 2 sixes. Lalit Yadav scored 37 off 24 balls while Rovman Powell hit 5 sixes towards the end to take the game deep. Ravichandran Ashwin picked up two wickets while Yuzvendra Chahal and Obed McCoy got a scalp each. Prasidh Krishna was the pick of the bowlers and got 3/22. DC needed 36 off 12 balls when Krishna bowled a wicket maiden over which ended up being the match winning over.

There was a lot of controversy in the final over where DC required 36 to win. Powell hit 3 consecutive sixes and the 3rd of which was a waist high full toss which wasn't given as a no ball. The batters demanded a no ball and the DC bench became agitated. After the umpire didn't signal a no ball, DC captain Rishabh Pant looked to be signalling to his players to walk off the ground before being stopped by assistant coach Shane Watson. Coach Pravin Amre then walked on the field to speak to the umpires but the decision didn't change and RR ended up winning the match.
