Cox gets maiden call-up, Crawley ruled out of Sri Lanka tests

Cox has now reaped the rewards for his consistency as he receives a maiden call-up to the national side.

The batter from Essex Jordan Cox has received his maiden call-up to England’s test side for their upcoming series against Sri Lanka at home. England announced their 14-member squad for the three tests, which does not include their opener Zak Crawley.

Jordan Cox a young 23-year-old batter has enjoyed a wonderful County season this year. Playing for Essex, Cox scored three hundred plus scores and scored 763 runs across 12 County Championship matches. He has now reaped the rewards for his consistency as he receives a maiden call-up to the national side.

Due to a fractured finger, England’s opener Zak Crawley will not play in the forthcoming Test series. The 26-year-old is expected to be replaced in the playing XI by Dan Lawrence after suffering a little finger injury while taking a catch in the slip during last week’s Edgbaston Test against the West Indies.

Olly Stone the English fast bowler,  who last competed for England in a Test match in June 2021, also make a return to the team. He replaces Dillon Pennington, another pacer in the lineup, who had been out due to a hamstring injury he acquired during The Hundred.

England are scheduled to play three tests. The first of the three Tests will be played in Manchester from August 21.
