In the third round of the 2023 Canadian Open, world No. 7 Coco Gauff will face reigning Wimbledon winner Marketa Vondrousova

(Football news) After a first-round bye, Gauff faced Katie Boulter in the second round. The adolescent got off to a blazing start, breaking her opponent twice to go 4-0 up. The Brit then put up a fight by winning the next two games.

The pendulum shifted back in Gauff’s favour as she won the next two games to take the opening. She surged to a 4-1 lead in the second set and broke Boulter’s service once more near the end to win the match 6-2, 6-2.

Vondrousova defeated Mayar Sherif in straight sets to advance to the second round, where she will face former World No. 1 Caroline Wozniacki. The opening set was rather easy, with the Czech breaking the 33-year-old’s serve twice to win it.

Vondrousova led 3-0 in the second set, but Wozniacki fought back to tie the match. She was unable to maintain the same level of effort to the conclusion, as the Czech swept the final three games to win 6-2, 7-5.

Head-to-Head

In the head-to-head, Gauff leads Vondrousova 1-0. She defeated him in three sets in the 2021 Dubai Tennis Championships.

Predictions

Gauff scarcely broke a sweat in his victory over Boulter. Vondrousova was on her way to an easy victory over Wozniacki when her level dropped a notch. She swiftly regained momentum, however, before things got out of hand. Despite playing defensively, the Czechs committed a significant number of unforced errors.

Both players are currently on a winning streak. Vondrousova has now won nine consecutive matches, dating back to her Wimbledon title run. Gauff’s unbeaten streak now stands at five matches after winning the Citi Open last week.

Because they are both in fantastic form, this match has the potential to go either way. Vondrousova is a skilled player who can mix up her shots effectively. Her lefty serve is also useful. Gauff’s court coverage should come in handy in this match, as the Czech is sure to drag her around.

Gauff’s forehand has been pretty consistent, and her serve has also been quite effective. Their previous match went the distance, with the teenager taking the lead in the final set to win. While Vondrousova cannot be ruled out, the American teenager will have a tiny advantage going into this match.
