(Football News) Carney Chukwuemeka has undergone surgery following a knee injury he sustained during the Premier League match against West Ham United on Sunday, as confirmed by the west London club on Tuesday.
Chukwuemeka managed to score the equalizing goal before being compelled to leave the field during halftime at the London Stadium. Unfortunately, Chelsea faced a 3-1 defeat against West Ham in that match.
In an official statement, Chelsea provided an update on Chukwuemeka’s condition, stating, “Carney underwent surgery and is now set to commence his recovery.” The 19-year-old player will be collaborating with the club’s medical team as he undergoes rehabilitation at Cobham, Chelsea’s training ground.
Earlier this month, Chelsea had signed the England youth international from Aston Villa on a six-year contract. Reflecting on the rollercoaster of emotions he experienced, Chukwuemeka expressed, “From Joy to Pain within minutes… My first goal for Chelsea. A moment I’ve prayed so hard for and dreamt of since I was a kid…” Despite this setback, he remains determined, stating, “Minor setback but I will be back stronger than ever. Thank you Chelsea fans for your love and support. See you soon.”
