(Football news) “Nkunku has sustained a knee injury which will rule the forward out for an extended period. The 25-year-old has undergone an operation and will now begin a rehabilitation programme with the club’s medical department,” the club said in an official statement.

Nkunku joined Chelsea on a six-year contract from RB Leipzig last month and has only appeared in pre-season friendlies for the Blues so far.

Before joining RB Leipzig in the summer of 2019, he made 78 first-team appearances and was a member of three Ligue 1 titles and two Coupe de France successes.

During his stint at Leipzig, he won the DFB-Pokal twice and scored 58 goals in all competitions in the last two seasons.

’’Chelsea, which ended outside the top 10 in the Premier League last season, is seeking a fresh start under Mauricio Pochettino, who led Tottenham Hotspur to the Champions League final in 2019.
