Chelsea Women are a win from the WSL title

Chelsea Women visit relegation-threatened Reading, they will attempt to win the Women's Super League championship at Berkshire

(Football news) WSL team Reading is battling to keep their spot after collecting only one point in their last seven games. Reading’s chances of avoiding the drop were severely damaged last weekend as they were routed 4-1 at Tottenham Hotspur. The sad outcome marked the Royals’ fifth straight loss, during which time they had given up 18 goals. Reading will try to take full advantage of home advantage on Saturday after earning all 11 of their points from home games this season.

Reading may have lost their last three competitive encounters with Chelsea, including a home loss in the FA Cup in March, but they might be able to find motivation in the fact that they triumphed in their most recent home league matchup against the Blues in December 2021. With a 2-0 victory over Arsenal at home last weekend, Chelsea came one step closer to winning the WSL for a fourth consecutive season.

Chelsea won at home for the sixth time in a row thanks to goals from Guro Reiten and Magdalena Eriksson in the first half. This puts them in position to win both the league and the FA Cup. The Blues will enter the weekend with a two-point lead over second-placed Manchester United, who won the Manchester derby on Sunday with a thrilling 2-1 victory to force a season-ending playoff.

Chelsea is aware that a victory will be adequate to maintain their championship while Man United must not defeat Liverpool by a score of six goals in order for Liverpool to receive a point. The Blues, who lead the Premier League in scoring with 63 goals in 21 games, will be confident that their offensive prowess will overwhelm a Reading team that has the second-worst defensive record in the division.

Squad Updates

Jackie Burns, Reading’s starting custodian, is still out with an injured Achilles tendon. Deanne Rose gave Kelly Chambers a bench option last weekend after making her long-awaited comeback from injury as a second-half substitute. Jade Moore and Emma Harries could reappear in the starting lineup for the match against Chelsea after being benched against Tottenham.

As for the guests, Millie Bright and Fran Kirby are still out due to knee issues, so Emma Hayes is still without their assistance. A farewell game for Chelsea is anticipated for Eriksson and Pernille Harder, who will depart at the end of the current campaign. Sam Kerr will continue to head the line for Saturday’s final game despite having 10 WSL goals this season.
