Chelsea will play Everton in EPL

When Chelsea hosts relegation-threatened Everton to Stamford Bridge on Monday night, they will be looking to extend their Premier League winning streak to eight games
Chelsea

(Football news) While Everton is currently in 16th position, two points above the relegation zone, the home team is currently in ninth place in the table, just five points behind sixth-place Manchester United.

The fact that Chelsea is currently in ninth place in the Premier League table with a record of 12 wins, 8 draws, and 10 losses to accumulate 44 points speaks volumes about how challenging the season has been for the capital team.

Since they are only five points behind sixth-place Manchester United, Mauricio Pochettino’s team is still in the running for a European finish. They are now on a seven-game league unbeaten streak.

Chelsea recorded a 4-3 win over Man United in their last match at Stamford Bridge on April 4, but they were unable to back that up with another victory, being held to a 2-2 draw by Sheffield United last weekend.

Indeed, while the capital outfit’s recent unbeaten run is a positive, there have only been two wins from their last six games in England’s top flight, with too many draws costing them a spot further up the division.

Chelsea have a tough run of fixtures to come, facing Arsenal, Aston Villa and Tottenham Hotspur in their next three, and it will be fascinating to see how the campaign ends for the club.

There has been huge pressure on Pochettino this season, and his spot at the helm is far from secure, but he has had to deal with an injury crisis in 2023-24 and that is showing no signs of easing heading into the final straight.

Everton, meanwhile, will enter this match off the back of a 1-0 success over Burnley, with Dominic Calvert-Lewin netting the only goal of the contest in the final stages of the first period.

The Toffees have claimed four points from their last two games against Newcastle United and Burnley, but they remain in relegation trouble, sitting 16th in the division, only two points clear of 18th-placed Luton.

Sean Dyche’s side have won five times on their travels this season, but they have not been victorious away from home in the Premier League since the middle of December against Burnley.

Everton’s solitary Premier League victory at Stamford Bridge dates back to November 1994. However, they defeated Chelsea 2-0 at Goodison Park in the rematch in December, and they are attempting to record the first league double against the capital team in 45 years.

Throughout the season, the Toffees have struggled to score goals, only managing 32 in the Premier League; only Sheffield United has scored fewer. However, Calvert-Lewin has already scored in his last two games after going 18 games without a goal in the league.
