Chelsea thrash Man Utd 6-1 in the Women’s Super League while Tottenham, Aston Villa and West Ham gain three points

(Football news) It was hard not to feel sorry for the Manchester United women’s team as Chelsea swept aside the hosts 6-1 on Sunday in an utterly dominating performance. Poor defending from Manchester United gave Chelsea a flying start when Kerr played in Kirby who finished from close range to score the first goal of the match. Pernille Harder doubled the lead in the 24th minute with a solo run and a dink finish. Four minutes after the interval, Kerr and Kirby teamed up again but in reverse roles as the Australian scored Chelsea’s third as the game went out of control for Manchester United.

The hosts improved in the second half and substitute Alessia Russo scored a consolation goal in the 48th minute for Man Utd, but the celebrations were short lived as Kerr converted a cross from the right to restore the three goal cushion. Goals from substitutes Drew Spence and Jessie Fleming resulted in a 6-1 scoreline for Chelsea as both teams ended the match with six points from three games.

Meanwhile, Tottenham continued to maintain their perfect start with a 1-0 win over Reading. Jessica Naz scored the only goal in the 85th minute as Spurs are now level on points with arch-rivals Arsenal at nine points from three matches. Aston Villa also defeated Brighton 1-0 thanks to a goal from Emily Gielnek three minutes after the break. West Ham won their first Women’s Super League match in style with a 4-0 victory over Leicester City. Goals from Australian debutant  Tameka Yallop in the 26th minute, Claudia Walker in the 38th minute, an own goal by Ashleigh Plumptre just before half-time and a second goal by Yallop in the second half sealed the win for The Hammers.
