Chameera ruled out of the India series

Sri Lankan pacer, Dushmantha Chameera has been ruled out of the Indian series due to an injury.”Only yesterday did we get back the reports, and it can be confirmed that he will miss the T20Is and ODIs against India,” Sri Lanka’s chief selector Upul Tharanga said at a briefing alongside interim head coach Sanath Jayasuriya on Wednesday. “We will name a replacement shortly.

Chameera featured in the Lankan Premier league earlier this month and was a part of the Kandy Falcons. He however did not feature in the eleven towards the end of the tournament. There is no clarity about, when did he pick up the injury and what is the nature and extent of it.

Chameera will mostly likely be replaced by the likes of Dilshan Madushanka, Asitha Fernando or Kasun Rajitha. Madushanka was initially dropped from the squad when Sri Lanka announced their T20I team to take on the World Champions.

Sri Lanka also made some major changes to their squad for the T20I series against India. Charith Asalanka has been appointed as the captain of the side to replace Wanindu Hasaranga who stepped down from the role post Sri Lanka forgettable exit from the T20 World Cup last month. The squad also saw some of the senior players being dropped which included the likes of Angelo Mathews, Dhananjay De Silva among others.

The experienced Dinesh Chandimal has managed to make it to the squad this time around. Furthermore 21-year old uncapped Chamindu Wickramasinghe got a call-up to the national side. Binura Fernando and Avishka Fernando has also made there way into the squad.

This will be Sri Lanka’s first T20I series post their World Cup exit and the side will look to build their confidence against the World Champions India. The series would be a great opportunity for Sri Lanka to bring their cricket back on track and gain a winning momentum.

They are set to play India in a 3-match T20I series starting on the 27th July, which will be followed by 3 ODIs to be played in Colombo.
