Cameron Norrie eliminated from Paris Masters after second round defeat

(Tennis news) French qualifier Corentin Moutet defeated Cameron Norrie 6-3 5-7 7-6 (3) in a match that lasted almost three hours. The 13th ranked Brit struggled against his 64th-ranked opponent, making 27 unforced errors, four double faults and only managed to hit 34 winners compared to his opponent’s 50. It was a bad day for British tennis players as Dan Evans and Jack Draper were also eliminated after second round defeats.

Draper was beaten 6-3 7-5 by world number 21 Frances Tiafoe in an hour and 24 minutes. Tiafoe started the game well, but two aces by Draper in the fourth game levelled the score 2-2. However, Tiafoe threatened to pull away with some magnificent shots but Draper put up a majestic fight in the eighth game before the American eventually broke and took the first set. Draper began the second set well, hitting four aces in the first three games but Tiafoe kept pace with the World Number 45.

The match looked like heading towards a tie-break with the scores level 5-5 but Tiafoe got the break in the 11th game before winning the second set 7-5. The American will now face Alex de Minaur in round three after the Australian beat Daniil Medvedev 6-4 2-6 7-5. In other results, Rafael Nadal was also knocked out of the second round after a  3-6 7-6 (4) 6-1 defeat to world number 31 Tommy Paul.
