(Cricket News) Jasprit Bumrah exhibited a stellar performance, dismantling the England batting lineup by claiming 5 wickets. This marked his 10th 5-wicket haul in Test cricket. Additionally, Bumrah reached his 150-wicket milestone in the same innings, dismissing notable batsmen such as Ollie Pope, Joe Root, Jonny Bairstow, Ben Stokes, and Tom Hartley, firmly establishing India in the driver’s seat.
Bumrah’s impressive spell culminated in a total of 6 wickets with figures of 6/45, restricting England to a mere 253 runs while chasing India’s 396, leaving them trailing by 143 runs. Notably, he achieved this milestone in just 6781 deliveries, making him the fastest Indian bowler to reach 150 wickets, surpassing the likes of Umesh Yadav, Mohammed Shami, Kapil Dev, and Ravichandran Ashwin.
Earlier in the day, during the afternoon session, the visitors managed to accumulate 123 runs in 27 overs. Kuldeep Yadav dismissed Ben Duckett (21 off 17) shortly after the lunch break.
In the morning session, Yashasvi Jaiswal played a pivotal role in India’s batting lineup, showcasing a remarkable double hundred as the hosts concluded their first innings with a total of 396. Starting the day at 336 for six, India added 60 runs to their total, eventually getting all out in 112 overs just before lunch. Jaiswal, with an outstanding score of 209 off 290, became the third youngest Indian to achieve a double hundred after Vinod Kambli and the legendary Sunil Gavaskar.
Despite Jaiswal’s extraordinary contribution, the rest of the Indian batters struggled, with Shubman Gill’s 34 being the second-highest score in the innings. The standout performer for England in the session was the 41-year-old James Anderson, who showcased another masterclass in seam bowling on a seemingly flat surface.
