Bruised Real Madrid host Alaves; Atletico and Barcelona face away challenges

(Football news) The top of the La Liga table is getting more cramped as the weeks progress. Many would've expected the title race to be over by now but Real Madrid's drop in form has made things interesting as Sevilla now stand only 4 points behind them. The top four race is also in full flow as is the relegation battle.

After their shock defeat to Levante midweek, Atletico Madrid will play against Osasuna away to stay in the top 4 race. For the first time in 10 years there are reports that Atletico Madrid are looking to potentially replace Diego Simeone and the situation surely demands it. Daniel Wass and Matheus Cunha, are unavailable due to injuries while Rodrigo De Paul is suspended. Antoine Griezmann is back in the squad after a long time and so is Yannick Carrasco who has recovered from Covid. Atletico need this win to stay in the race for the UCL spots and also to get some momentum before their crucial UCL tie against Manchester United.

Real Madrid are in a right pickle at this moment as they gave one of their worst performances ever against PSG. Los Blancos have only scored just 1 goal in their last 4 games in all competitions. They will host Deportivo Alaves to try and swing back to the good side. Karim Benzema is expected to be fully fit which he definitely wasn't against PSG. Apart from that Carlo Ancelotti has a fully fit squad to pick his starting XI from. Gareth Bale, who had a decent game against Villarreal could start on the right wing. There will definitely be some panic in the Real Madrid camp but nothing they can't recover from as they have 4 point lead in the league and are only trailing by a goal with the 2nd leg being at the Bernabeu.

Barcelona played a disappointing draw at home against Napoli in the first leg of the UEL Round of 32. They will now take on Valencia away from home to try and stay above Atletico Madrid in the 4th spot. La Masia graduate Ilaix Moriba could be seen playing against his former club. Memphis Depay, Sergi Roberto and Ansu Fati are the Blaugrana players who are still out with injuries. Xavi's main issue at this moment is the side's conversion in front of goal which was very poor against Napoli and Espanyol.
