(Football news) On Saturday, after a wild injury time period saw Brentford escape with a point against Manchester United, Roberto De Zerbi’s team lost 2-1 to Liverpool, the new leaders.

Despite having the third-most touches ever in a Premier League game on Saturday with a ridiculous 85, Brentford was their own worst enemies in front of goal and lost to Manchester United deep into injury time in the second half. Mason Mount’s goal was the first for Manchester United.

However, just when it appeared that Frank’s men would pay for all of their squandered opportunities, the hosts got back on level terms almost immediately through Kristoffer Ajer to steal a deserved point, although the home faithful were left wondering how their side failed to accrue all three against a pitiful Man United outfit.

Nevertheless, a point against the 20-time English champions is nothing to scoff at, and thanks to results elsewhere going Brentford’s way, the Bees hold a five-point advantage over the relegation zone in 15th place – still far from a comfortable cushion, though.

By only managing to convert one of their 31 shots on Saturday night, the hosts’ dismal winless run in the Premier League now stands at seven matches, although there are green shoots of recovery rearing; the Bees have also stolen a point off Chelsea while coming agonisingly close to sharing the spoils with Arsenal too.

Ajer’s last-gasp response also saw Brentford find the back of the net for the fifth Premier League game running and their ninth in a row in all tournaments at home, although amid their devastating defensive injuries, the Bees have now conceded in 11 straight matches at the Gtech Community Stadium.

Both Frank and his opposing number, De Zerbi, have been predicted to move up the managerial ladder this summer despite their individual struggles throughout 2023–2024. De Zerbi put his skills to the test against one of his purported fans in Liverpool during Sunday’s early kickoff.

With an early goal in front of the Kop, former Arsenal player Danny Welbeck gave Brighton and his former team the best Easter present ever. However, like many others before them, the Seagulls were defeated by a Liverpool Anfield comeback as Mohamed Salah and Luis Diaz negated the Englishman’s first goal.
