(Cricket news) India defeated Sri Lanka in the 2nd ODI by 4 wickets to clinch the series. Dasun Shanaka won the toss and elected to bat first as Rohit Sharma said that he was happy to lose the toss as he wasn’t sure what to do. India made a forced change in their line-up as Yuzvendra Chahal couldn’t play due to a shoulder injury he suffered while fielding in the 1st match and Kuldeep Yadav came in as a replacement. Sri Lanka handed a debut to Nuwanidu Fernando who replaced the injured Pathum Nidsanka. Dilshan Madushanka also was injured and he was replaced by Lahiru Kumara.

Batting first Sri Lanka got off to a great start. Mohammed Siraj dismissed Avishka Fernando but other than that it was going well as the visitors were 103/1 in 15 overs. However the Indians got a breakthrough and the Sri Lankan line-up collapsed. Kuldeep Yadav put in a player of the match performance as he picked up 3/51. Axar Patel chipped in with a wicket while Mohammed Siraj also got 3 wickets. Umran Malik continued his wicket taking form as he got 2 scalps. Debutant Fernando was the only Sri Lankan batter who reached the 50 run mark. Avishka Fernando, Kusal Mendis, Wanindu Hasaranga, Dunith Wellalage all played decent cameos but couldn’t convert it to big scores.

With a target of just 216, India made a tough task of it. Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, Shreyas Iyer, Hardik Pandya and Axar Patel all got out after getting decent starts while last match’s Centurion Virat Kohli got out very cheaply. KL Rahul played an incredible knock as he scored an unbeaten 64 off 103 balls. Given the situation, Rahul’s innings was extremely crucial as he led India to victory. Despite having a low target to defend Sri Lanka bowled really well. Lahiru Kumara and Chamika Karunaratne got 2 scalps each while Kasun Rajitha and Dhananjaya de Silva picked up a wicket each. India may look to ring in some changes to give others a chance in the next match.
