Bournemouth will play Luton Town in EPL

Following Tom Lockyer's collapse on the field in December, the Premier League match between Bournemouth and Luton Town was postponed and rescheduled

(Football news) The Premier League announced a few days later that the match would be replayed in its entirety. The game was stopped just after the hour mark, with the score tied at one.

When Lockyer was treated on the field for a heart collapse in mid-December and then the stadium was informed that play would be stopped, there was a somber atmosphere around the Vitality.

Elijah Adebayo’s goal in the third minute had given Luton the lead, but Dominic Solanke’s goal for the Cherries equalized just before Lockyer’s collapse.

That was the captain of Luton’s second scare of the season; the same thing happened to Lockyer in the Championship playoff final vs Coventry City.

Lockyer was quickly taken to hospital, where he made a full recovery, but he remains out of the game indefinitely, with it unclear whether he will play professionally again.

Ahead of this rearranged encounter, hosts Bournemouth can almost guarantee their Premier League status with a win.

Three points would move Andoni Iraola’s side level with Fulham in 12th on 35 points, and 14 clear of Luton in 18th.

The Cherries could have been even closer to that target had they been able to beat bottom-of-the-table Sheffield United at the weekend though, as a late fightback was required just to claim a point.

Despite going into the game as big favourites, Bournemouth found themselves 2-0 down heading into the final quarter of an hour, but after Dango Ouattara had pulled one back, Enes Unal’s first goal in English football snatched a point in stoppage time.

Leading scorer Solanke, however, had a terrible day when he erred in his penalty kick attempt, slipping and sending the ball over the bar, and then had a goal disallowed for handball in the second half.

Bournemouth has only won one league game so far this season—away against Burnley last weekend—because they were unable to secure the maximum number of points. They need to make the most of their next three home games in order to ensure their survival.
