Bonmatí and López Win Golden Woman and Girl

The media organization ‘Tuttosport’ presented an awards ceremony that undoubtedly turned blaugrana.  Following Leo Messi (2005), Pedri González (2021), and Pablo Gavi (2022), Lamine Yamal, one of the house’s great talents, became the fourth culé to earn the Golden Boy, perhaps the most symbolic prize of this range of distinctions.

In addition, Barcelona won every prize in the women’s division. Why? A wonderful evening for the culé entity as a whole was sealed when Vicky López and Aitana Bonmatí, two players from Barça Femení, were awarded the Golden Girl 2024 and Golden Player Woman 2024, respectively. Without a doubt, their extraordinary abilities are among the greatest in the world.

Vicky López, a midfielder for Barça Femení, has now made history for the Blaugrana club by becoming the first Spanish and Culé to win the Golden Girl award. The award has been given out since 2018 and previous winners include Asia Bragonzi (Hellas Verona, 2020), Giada Greggi (AS Roma, 2019), Linda Caicedo (Real Madrid, 2023), Jule Brand (Wolfsburg, 2022), Martina Tomaseli (Sassuolo, 2021), Giada Greggi (AS Roma, 2019), and Benedetta Glionna (Juventus, 2018).

With nine other players in the running, including Giulia Dragoni, a culé who is currently on loan at Roma, Eva Schatzer (Juventus), Amelie Joseph (Metz), Ana Guzmán (Bayern Munich), Zara Kramzar (Como), Lily Johannes (Ajax), Freya Godfrey (Arsenal), and Wieke Kaptein (Chelsea), Vicky López certainly had a lot of merit to win this award.

The Madrid native is becoming more and more well-known at Barça Femení. She has limitless football potential and is also starting to make an impression on the Spanish national team, where she is a regular fixture in coach Montse Tomé’s plans.

What else is there to say about Aitana Bonmatí, the Golden Player Woman 2024? This is the second time in the Sant Pere de Ribes native’s career that she has won this honor; the first was last year (2023). Prior to these honors, Alexia Putellas won in 2022 and Lieke Martens in 2021, demonstrating the Blaugrana team’s dominance in this area.

After a year where she has won everything together and stood out on her own, including earning her second straight Ballon d’Or, Aitana Bonmatí adds a well-earned honor to her resume. There isn’t much space for disagreement regarding this athlete, who is possibly the greatest football player in the world.
