Besiktas announce the signing of Wolves defender Romain Saiss

(Football news) Romain Saiss is officially announced as the new Besiktas player. The Moroccon star recently left Wolves after a successful six years stint at the club, having not reached an agreement to extend his contract at Molineux. It was reported that the player’s wage demands were not met by the Wolves officials as the player took to Instagram on May 31 to confirm his exit from the club. He soon followed John Ruddy and Fernando Marcal who have departed Molineux. It has not taken Saiss long to move on to a new chapter as he is now a Besiktas player after successfully undergoing his medical at Acıbadem Altunizade Hospital in Istanbul. It is a good bit of business from the Turkish giants who got his signature ahead of many clubs who supposedly had taken an interest in Saiss. The 32-year-old enjoyed a pretty good final season with Wolves in 2021/22 and is expected to do the same at Besiktas.

During last season he was absolutely rock-solid in the first half of the campaign. He then went to AFCON, which seemingly disrupted his momentum a little after helping Morocco reach the AFCON semi finals. After coming back from the AFCON he struggled to get back to his early season form and ultimately ended the season in poor form as Wolves missed out on an European spot, he was subsequently ruled out for the final three matches with an injury. Without doubt though, Besiktas getting Saiss as a free agent is a good move. It is thought that he will likely become an immediate starter with their club captain Domagoj Vida leaving Vodafone Park. Besiktas have gotten their man to replace their club captain. Saiss has his limitations in his defending, but one thing is clear with him, that he will give everything on the pitch as he’s a warrior, and a leader.

He had six great years of service to Wolves, helping them secure promotion and consistently finishing in the top 10 of the Premier League. Yes, he made some defensive mistakes but he always plays with heart, fight and determination. Besiktas are getting themselves a fantastic professional who has ample Premier League experience, as it’s likely Saiss could actually do really well in the Super Lig. The 32-year-old footballer is set to join the Turkish giants for a salary of €1.5 million and a €500 thousand signing bonus to join them on a 4-year contract.  Several elite European clubs, including Spanish clubs Villarreal and Real Betis had expressed interest in signing the Atlas Lions captain but he ultimately chose Turkey as his likely destination
