(Cricket news) Ben McDermott’s courageous 146 received little help from the other batters, as Queensland were folded for less than double his total (282) on the first day against Tasmania at the Gabba.
Electing to bat Queensland started off in a shaky fashion loosing 3 wickets for just 24 runs. They were further reduced to 59/4 when Jack Clayton was cleaned up by Freeman. McDermott added 51 runs with skipper Jimmy Pierson for the 5th wicket. He then stitched up 100 with Michael Neser before adding 59 with Gurinder Sandhu to help the team reach 282 runs.
McDermott scored a brilliant 146 off 218 balls, while Neser was the second highest scorer with 47 runs. Stanlake and Bell were the pick of the bowlers for Tasmania, picking up four wickets each and ending with spells of 4/50 and 4/40 respectively.
Tasmania coming into bat late in the day managed to play out the seven overs and did not loose any wickets, ending the day on 33/0.
Brief Scores: Queensland 282 (Ben McDermott 146*, Michael Neser 47; Gabe Bell 4-40, Billy Stanlake 4-50); Tasmania 33/0, trail by 249 runs
