BCCI aims to improve pace resources with fast bowling contracts

(Cricket News) The newest addition to the BCCI Central contracts is the fast bowling contract, which has been added by the BCCI in the 2023-24 central contracts. A total of 5 players which includes – Akash Deep, Vijaykumar Vyshak, Umran Malik, Yash Dayal and Vidwath Kaverappa have been recommended for the fast bowling contracts by the BCCI.

Under the contract, these pacers will get an unrestricted access to the National Cricket Academy (NCA). They will have a privilege, which would be primarily reserved for them. The contracted players will be able to train, undergo their rehab and have access to all the facilities of the NCA at no cost.

Non-contracted players also have the access to the NCA, however for using the facility they need to be recommended by their respective state boards and all their expenses are taken care by their boards.

The fast bowling contract is a great initiative by the BCCI, which would help to nurture the fast bowling talents that the country has. The main objective behind introducing these new contracts is to create a pool of fast bowling bench strength for the national team. With the increasing amount of cricket that is being played these days, it is necessary to have some strong backup players at any point of time.

“Fabulous move,” said Bharat Arun. “They are creating a pool of fast bowlers and making them avail the best of know-how from the NCA. These bowlers will have access to the best of physiotherapy and strength and conditioning expertise which would not be as good in their states. Besides, they will learn from the NCA coaches. It is an excellent and much-needed decision,” said the former India bowling coach welcoming the decision.

The financial benefits for these contracted players has not been announced by the BCCI. However, there is speculation that the retainership for the identified pacers could be comparable to that of players in the C Grade, which stands at Rs 1 crore as per the contracts released last year.
