Faruque Ahmed, the President of the Bangladesh Cricket Board, stated on Saturday, August 24, that the board will decide on Shakib Al Hasan’s future following the current Test match against Pakistan.
In a murder complaint filed on Thursday, August 22, Rafiqul Islam—the father of Rubel, a worker at a textile factory in Dhaka—named Shakib as the suspect. Rubel was killed on August 5 in Adabor.
In response to the allegation, Supreme Court attorney Shajib Mahmood Alam submitted a legal notice to the BCB on behalf of Advocate Md Rafinur Rahman on Saturday via email and registered mail, requesting that Shakib be immediately removed from all “forms” of cricket.
According to the International Cricket Council’s regulations, Shakib is not permitted to continue playing for his country’s cricket team because he has been mentioned in a case, as stated in the notice that was obtained.
Additionally, the notice requests that Shakib be brought back to Bangladesh as quickly as possible in order to aid in the advancement of the murder case investigation. It is also necessary to notify the ICC of this development.
At the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium on Saturday, Faruque held a lengthy meeting with a few of his board directors. He stated that they had not yet received the legal notice. The newly appointed president of the BCB did, however, also add that they would make a decision regarding Shakib before the second Test against Pakistan, which is set for August 30 in Rawalpindi.
“Let me say about Shakib. A case has been lodged. We are yet to get any legal notice. A FIR (first information letter) was given in the case and later there will be an investigation and following that the case will move in one direction or the other,” Faruque told reporters following the meeting.
“Look now we are playing Test match and it is very good news that we have played well in the fourth day and tomorrow is the fifth day the deciding day of the Test and I think at this point we did not think about taking any stance. After tomorrow game is over we will sit and take a decision. By this time we can also say something about the legal notice as we will receive the legal notice by that time,” he said.
“Look the FIR is just the first information letter and they are yet to claim any charge as far as I know and before that it is difficult to take a decision. Look the relationship with BCB and Shakib al Hasan is like player and an employer according to contract and after tomorrow we can think exactly after getting the legal notice and based on that. I cannot withdraw him from middle of the Test match,” he said.
“You know the second Test match is on August 30 and we will take in between as there is a gap and we can think what can be done in this regard,” he added.
