(Football news) Bayern Munich a couple of weeks ago announced the sacking of Julian Nagelsmann which was a big surprise. Thomas Tuchel took over as the manager and his career at Bayern Munich got off to a brilliant start. The first match was against Tuchel’s former club and league leaders Borussia Dortmund. Tuchel’s men won the match 4-0 to go top of Bundesliga. However now things have gone a little haywire as Bayern Munich have been eliminated from the DFB Pokal Cup by Freiburg.

Freiburg are currently 4th in the Bundesliga and they have managed to pull off a massive upset in the Cup. Thomas Tuchel made just one change to the line-up that defeated Dortmund as Joao Cancelo came in at right back in place of Alfonso Davies. It was Bayern Munich who took the lead in the 19th minute as Dayot Upamecano headed Joshua Kimmich’s corner into the goal. Freiburg responded straight away as they pushed hard for an equalizer. Just 8 minutes after conceding, they managed to equalize via Nicolas Hofler. The midfielder scored an incredible goal from 25 yards out to put the game back on level terms.

Bayern Munich had some really good chances to regain their lead but Freiburg held on to the 1-1 scoreline. In injury time of the first half was their biggest chance as Thomas Muller shot into an empty net but Matthias Ginter cleared it off the line. Benjamin Pavard hit the crossbar via Joshua Kimmich’s free kick but the goal just wasn’t coming. There was drama in stoppage time as Freiburg were awarded a penalty as Jamal Musiala handled the ball in the box. Lucas Holer stepped up and converted the spot kick to seal a memorable win for his side.
