(Football news) Bayern Munich suffered a massive blow when their captain and goalkeeper broke his leg on a ski trip which ruled him out for the entire season. Second choice shot stopper Sven Ulreich has played a total of 6 seasons as Neuer’s back-up across two stints. Julian Nagelsmann clearly feels that Bayern need a better goalkeeper between the sticks as Ulreich is prone to making mistakes. Bayern Munich are in negotiations with Borussia Mönchengladbach for Yann Sommer.
Alexander Nübel, who is expected to take over from Neuer eventually is currently on loan at Monaco and bringing him back would be an option. Sommer has proven his quality at the highest level and Bayern will be safe with the Swiss international between the sticks. Sommer is already 34 years of age which is why 26 year old Nubel who has been doing well with Monaco would make a lot more sense. Having said that Nubel has said that he is a Monaco player and the club has already told him that they have no intentions of letting him go.
Bayern Munich’s director of football also said that bringing back Nubel would be a very complicated move. Mönchengladbach has said that Yann Sommer is not for sale in January even though he contract runs out in the summer. If Bayern Munich pay a considerable amount of money then Borussia Mönchengladbach may not be able to say no to it. Bundesliga returns this weekend but the deal is unlikely to be completed before that. It will be interesting to see if Sommer plays the game for Mönchengladbach and is said to be keen on the move to Bayern Munich.
