(Football news) Real Madrid have had a torrid start to 2023 as they have lost 2 out of 4 games this season so far. The 3-1 hammering in the Spanish Super Cup final against Barcelona was a disaster. Lucas Vazquez injured himself in the Spanish Super Cup semi final against Valencia. Dani Carvajal played the final and had an absolute howler as all 3 Barcelona goals came from his side. Now according to reports the Spaniard is injured and will miss the Copa Del Rey clash against Villarreal. With David Alaba and Aurélien Tchouaméni already ruled out, this is a big blow.

Nacho, Antonio Rudiger and Eder Militao could play at right back while Castilla player Vinicius Tobias is someone who could be given a go. Real Madrid have still not changed their position on January transfers as they have made it clear that there will be no arrivals. According to a report, Carlo Ancelotti asked for a striker and a full back in the window but the board denied his request. There are other reports which say that the board wants Ancelotti to use Castilla players. Sergio Arribas in particular is one player who deserves an opportunity to play more games. Since his arrival Ancelotti has rarely given the Castilla players a chance despite having so much talent on offer.

Both full back areas definitely have room for improvement while a number 9 and a right winger would also be welcomed. However, Real Madrid are only linked with Jude Bellingham for the summer who is a midfielder. Los Blancos may need to rethink their transfer strategy before it’s too late. After the World Cup, Real Madrid players are looking very exhausted and don’t seem to have enough energy which Ancelotti has said himself. The Italian boss trusts his regulars but perhaps he may have to give Castilla players an opportunity to get the season back on track.
