Bayern crush Dortmund to reclaim the top spot in the Bundesliga

Bayern steamroll over Dortmund to retake Bundesliga top spot as Tuchel makes dream start
Bayern destroy Dortmund 4-2 at the Allianz Arena to reclaim top spot in the Bundesliga

(Football news) Thomas Tuchel’s first game in charge for Bayern Munich helped them crush a hapless Borussia Dortmund side to win 4-2 in Der Klassiker on Saturday, as three goals were scored in the opening 23 minutes and helped them reclaim top spot in the Bundesliga standings. The Bavarians now face Manchester City next in the Champions League quarter finals on April 11 and they will take some much needed encouragement that they are back on top spot with 55 points, leaving Dortmund two points behind with eight matches remaining.

Tuchel, who also coached Dortmund from 2015-2107, replaced Julian Nagelsmann as manager and the hosts were all over their title rivals from the start. They scored early on thanks to an unbelievable error from Dortmund keeper Gregor Kobel in the 13th-minute when he completely miskicked his attempt to clear a Dayot Upamecano pass as he saw the ball roll into the net for an own goal, which gave Bayern the much needed breakthrough especially after a tumultuous week for the fans.

Before Dortmund managed to settle in the match, Bayern scored again with Thomas Muller tapping the ball in with his hip at the far post after a header from Matthijs de Ligt from Kimmich corner in the 18th minute. Kobel’s comeback into the starting XI was a complete nightmare as five minutes later he only could punch Leroy Sane’s shot into the path of Muller to who might have scored the easiest brace goals in his life.

It looked like Bayern were scoring at their own will and Kingsley Coman was quick to score a fourth goal six minutes after the half time break. Dortmund’s defence was torn to shreds and looked clueless for the first 60 minutes of the match at the Allianz Arena. Bayern never really took their foot off the gas as they wanted to score more and make a statement of intent. Some sloppy finishing in the second half prevented the Bavarian Giants from scoring more goals.

Dortmund did get two consolation goals late in the game with an Emre Can penalty in the 72nd minute and a stoppage-time effort goal from Donyell Malen. Tuchel previously coached Paris St Germain and Chelsea as he could not have asked for a better start with Bayern as they are now on the course of a record-stretching 11th league title. On the other hand, title rivals Union Berlin moved up to third on 51 after a 3-0 win over VfB Stuttgart as they are just 2 points behind Dortmund in the standings.
