Bayern are two games away from winning their 11th straight title after demolishing Schalke

(Football news) Bayern Munich thrashed relegation threatened Schalke 04 6-0 on Saturday as two goals from Serge Gnabry helped Bayern stay a point clear at the top with two games remaining this season and are subsequently close in on their 11th straight Bundesliga title. The Bavarians giants are on 68 points, while Borussia Dortmund are a point behind after their impressive 5-2 victory over Borussia Monchengladbach.

Thomas Muller, whose future at the club has been in doubt ever since Thomas Tuchel took over in March as he’s always on the bench but the 33 year old made the most of a rare start. He scored the first goal in the 21st minute as Joshua Kimmich doubled their lead eight minutes later with a penalty. Bayern picked up where they had left off after the break and ran riot after halftime.

It was Gnabry who scored the third goal when he drilled in his shot in the 50th minute after Joao Cancelo’s superb work in the box set up Gnabry for his fourth goal in the last three games. Gnabry is now Bayerns top scorer in the Bundesliga this season with 13 goals. The youngster Mathys Tel also got on the score sheet from an inch perfect assist from Jamal Musiala and then the teenager again turned provider this time setting up Noussair Mazraoui in stoppage time. The win piled pressure on Dortmund while also offering the Bayern management and coaches some respite after their disappointing exits in the German Cup and Champions League under Tuchel.

“This win gives us a good atmosphere for the next two matches,” coach Thomas Tuchel said. “We created chances from the start but there is no need to be euphoric. It was a good performance and the next step in the right direction.

“We gained a bit of confidence and that helps us. We created many chances, scored many goals and that makes us feel good. Now we need to carry this energy into the next week.”
