(Cricket news) Bas de Leede became just the fourth man in ODI history to take five wickets and hit a hundred runs in the same game.

As the Netherlands eliminated Scotland and secured their place in the World Cup in India, the Netherlands took part in yet another historic encounter. The Netherlands completed the 278-run chase in just 42.5 overs.

When Logan van Beek was dismissed by the dangerous Matthew Cross for a two-ball duck in the first over after winning the toss for the Netherlands, the decision to bowl first was vindicated.

As both Scottish openers were brought back to the hut, Bas de Leede broke the shaky stand that Christopher McBride and Brandon McMullen were trying to establish.

George Munsey was removed by De Leede less than four overs later, leaving Scotland on 64/3 in 15 overs. However, Brandon McMullen grabbed control of the game since he had plenty of time to acclimatize to the circumstances.

He waited patiently, reprimanding the bad balls, and ultimately raised his fifty. After reaching the goal, he picked up the pace and, along with Richie Berrington, helped Scotland gain an advantage.

The pair pulled together the best ODI partnership for any wicket against the Netherlands, totaling 137 runs for the fourth wicket, and McMullen notched his second century of the competition. McMullen’s edge to the keeper off Ryan Klein for 106 gave the Netherlands its first breakthrough, but not before sending Scotland over the 200-run threshold. Berrington also mentioned a magnificent half-century during this time. De Leede bowled him when he was 68 in the 45th over.

In the 49th over, De Leede struck twice to halt Scotland’s advancement. It was his first five-wicket haul in ODIs. Scotland set a challenging goal of 278 for the Netherlands.

The Netherlands began its pursuit of 278 slowly. Despite a few early worries, the Dutch openers finished their 50-year opening stand.

However, Scotland did well to maintain the pressure, and they were rewarded when Max O’Dowd was trapped by Michael Leask, ending the 65-run partnership. In his subsequent over, Leask removed the other opener, Vikramjit Singh, to further frighten the Netherlands.

The dismissal of Wessly Barresi by batting hero McMullen, who reduced the Netherlands to 93/3 in the 20th over, gave his team further reason for optimism. At the halfway point, Chris Greaves scored to send Teja Nidamanuru back. The pace was sluggish at first. Scotland was still very much in the game after Scott Edwards was bowled out by Mark Watts in the 31st over.

Bas de Leede, though, persevered at one end while bringing up his fifty. The Dutch were under pressure to pick up speed as the possibility of qualification grew larger. De Leede had the ideal support from Zulfiqar as he initially chipped away at the runs in only ones and twos. De Leede made the decision to change the momentum when the equation read 45 off 24 balls, and Watt was left to take the brunt of the Orange Onslaught.

Bas de Leede smashed back-to-back sixes to reach a stunning century, and Zulfiqar hit the third six of that over to swiftly relieve a lot of pressure. When Bas de Leede was run out in the following over, Logan van Beek came in and hit the winning runs to the delight of his teammates, practically ensuring the Dutch victory.
