Barcelona will play Almeria in the La Liga

Barcelona will be eager to close 2023 with a victory when they host struggling Almeria on Wednesday after losing their last three competitive games

(Football news) The visitors, who are currently atop the La Liga standings, aim to pull off a stunning comeback and break their lengthy drought for a league victory this season when they visit Monjuic.

Barcelona lost to Girona and Royal Antwerp in La Liga and the Champions League, respectively, and was held to a stalemate in their away match against Valencia on Saturday. Going into the midweek match, they had not won in three previous games.

When Hugo Guillamon scored an equalizer in the 70th minute to take Barcelona’s winless away streak to four competitive games, the Blaugrana appeared to be headed for victory when Joao Felix scored his third league goal of the season from close range. Nevertheless, they ultimately had to settle for a share of the spoils.

With three wins, two draws, and two losses in their previous seven league games, Barcelona’s hopes of holding onto the crown they earned the previous season are being harmed by their lack of consistency.

Xavi has a lot of pressure to turn things around for his team, which is now in third place and seven points off the top of the table. The first game to test this pressure is Wednesday’s matchup against bottom team Almeria.

A 2-0 victory over Almeria in their most recent home meeting in November 2022 was secured thanks to goals from Ousmane Dembele and Frenkie de Jong. They have an impressive record of winning all seven of their home top-flight meetings against Almeria and keeping five clean sheets during that time.

Following his team’s five straight home losses in all competitions, Xavi would undoubtedly appreciate another shutout on Wednesday.

After a terrible first half of the season in which they have lost all 17 of their league games, Almeria is aware that they will have their hands full trying to threaten the champions.

After stealing a point off Real Betis earlier in the season, Garitano’s team managed to draw 0-0 at home against Mallorca on Saturday to record just their fifth point of the year. Garitano took over for Vicente Moreno in October.

Though a team with the poorest defensive record in La Liga may find confidence in back-to-back home clean sheets, they will need to start winning if they hope to narrow the significant eight-point deficit to safety.

Having lost their last seven away league games since drawing 1-1 with fellow Andalusian team Cadiz at the end of August, they are coming into the journey to Catalonia on the heels of a dreadful away run.
