Barcelona take on Real Betis in the Spanish Super Cup semi final

(Football news) Barcelona on the weekend defeated Atletico Madrid 1-0 to go 3 points clear on top of the La Liga table. Now the Blaugrana will take on Real Betis in the Spanish Super Cup. Barcelona’s last trophy was the Copa Del Rey in 2021, so they will be very keen to win the Super Cup. Real Madrid have already booked their place in the finals after a penalty shootout win against Valencia. If Barcelona or Real Betis win the match inside 90 minutes then it will be a very big advantage for them in the finals. 

Ferran Torres picked up a red card against Atletico Madrid hence he is suspended for this game. Robert Lewandowski and Jordi Alba on the other hand have served their respective suspensions. The duo should come back into the line-up straight away. After their injury crisis before the World Cup, now Xavi has a fully fit squad at his disposal. After a disappointing World Cup, Lewandowski is yet to find his rhythm with Barcelona again. Real Betis on the other hand Youssouf Sabaly and Paul Akouokou who are injured. Betis last game was a 2-1 win over Rayo Vallecano which got them to 4th place.

Barcelona haven’t won the Super Cup since the change in format. Xavi in the past two years has had a turbulent time but he is yet to win a single trophy. If the Catalan side do get past Betis then they will be favorites against Real Madrid. Borja Iglesias and Nabil Fekir are the two players who Barcelona need to keep quiet in this game. On the other end Ousmane Dembele will be key for Barcelona as the winger already has 7 goals and 7 assists this season.
