(Football news) Barcelona defeated Real Madrid 3-1 in the Spanish Super Cup final. The Blaugrana completely dominated the game as Madrid were left helpless. Xavi started Ronald Araujo at right back to stop Vinicius Jr while Jules Kounde and Andreas Christensen paired up at centre back. Jordi Alba was dropped in favour of Alex Balde while there was midfield four of Frenkie De Jong, Sergio Busquets, Pedri and Gavi. Carlo Ancelotti dropped Rodrygo to the bench but Camavinga once again started the game.

Barcelona from the first whistle were causing Real Madrid trouble. Los Blancos couldn’t hold on to the ball for much time and playing out from the back was impossible. The first goal came in the 34th minute after Real Madrid gave away possession cheaply and Robert Lewandowski assisted Gavi. 12 minutes later Gavi returned the favour by setting up Lewandowski for the 2nd goal. Real Madrid barely created any chances going down the other end. Barcelona had Vinicius Jr in check for the whole game while Karim Benzema also failed to have a significant impact.

Real Madrid brought on Rodrygo at half time and Camavinga was once again substituted at half time. Barcelona added a 3rd goal in the 69th minute as Gavi once again assisted Pedri. Even after going 3-0 down, Real Madrid showed very little intent as Barcelona looked very comfortable. In the end Madrid did get a consolation goal via Karim Benzema but it was too little too late.

The trophy was Barcelona’s first one since the 2021 Copa Del Rey and Xavi will be hoping to deliver more silverware this season. Real Madrid need to get their act together because they have to fight for 4 trophies in the remaining season and if the performances don’t improve then they might not win any of them.
