Barcelona Defender Struggles Under Flick After Injury

Under new coach Hansi Flick, the majority of Barcelona players have had a positive experience. This season, the German tactician has seen significant progress in nearly every Barça player.

Eric Garcia is one of the outliers, though, among others. Despite having a strong start to the season, the former Man City starlet seems to have slipped in the rankings recently.

After Eric Garcia returned from injury early in the season, Flick has begun to entirely ignore him, according to SPORT.

Garcia, who played a significant role in seven of the eight league games this season, suffered an injury in the middle of October and missed more than a month of action.

Early in the season, the defender was considered the best backup for Pau Cubarsi and Inigo Martinez, who play center defense. He was a perfect fit for the number six position due to his versatility.

Garcia, meanwhile, has hardly played for Barcelona since recovering from an injury in late November.

Since recovering from his injury, the defender has only played eight minutes overall, and Flick isn’t displaying any signs of putting his trust in the center-back once more.

Ronald Araujo has now recovered from injury, giving Flick more options, which could make Garcia’s situation at Barça worse.

As a result, the Spaniard’s role in the Barcelona first squad is expected to diminish even more, which may lead to his possible January departure.

Garcia has actually been frequently linked to leaving Catalonia recently, particularly as the team is eager to reduce its payroll.

For his part, Garcia has not ruled out leaving in the future, and it seems like a move to the Premier League is one of the possible outcomes.
