Due to an ankle injury that has kept him out of action since August, Andreas Christensen has had a challenging season thus far at FC Barcelona.
The 28-year-old Danish international just had surgery after initially choosing conservative therapy, and he will still be a while before he can play again.
His future has been the subject of some conjecture amid all of this, as it has been reported that manager Hansi Flick no longer sees Christensen as a part of his plans at Barça.
Barcelona reportedly plans to sell the former Chelsea player, whose contract expires in 2026, as a result.
In spite of the rumors and conjecture, Christensen has stated unequivocally in an interview with TV Sport 2 (via SPORT) that he plans to remain at Barcelona and is not considering leaving.
Regarding these stories, Christensen said, “When you hear about it, you can’t help but smile.”
“I can only discuss the discussions I have had with the club, and thus far, they have only advised me to recuperate well and that they anticipate my return,” he added.
“Should I remain in Barcelona? Christensen, who is 28 and has a contract that expires in June 2026, said, “Yes, of course.”
Given how effectively Inigo Martinez and Pau Cubarsi have played together and how Ronald Araujo is also about to make a comeback, Christensen will have a difficult time getting back into the starting lineup once he returns.
“I go into it believing that it will be challenging. It is my responsibility to defeat them because they have performed so brilliantly. “It will be challenging, but the ultimate objective is to return and play as many games as possible,” he said.
Last season, Xavi Hernandez utilized the Danish international’s ability to play as a defensive midfielder. He only played 26 minutes in the first La Liga game against Valencia at Mestalla (1-2), so he hasn’t had the opportunity to play in this role under Hansi Flick, but he thinks he might be a good replacement for Marc Casado in this role.
