(Football news) Barcelona are keen to get Lionel Messi back to the Camp Nou with vice president Rafael Yuste saying that the two parties are in contact for a blockbuster return. The 35 year old is Barcelona’s all time top scorer with 672 goals in 778 games but was forced to leave the club in 2021 due to financial reasons. His contract is set to expire with Paris Saint-Germain at the end of this season but reports suggest that the Argentine is keen to extend his contract at the French club.
Speaking in an interview, Rafael Yuste said “Leo and his family know the affection I have for them. I participated in the negotiations which unfortunately did not lead to a certain result. I’ve always had this thorn in my side that Leo couldn’t continue at our club. Messi knows how much we appreciate him. I would love for him to come back. We’re in contact, of course, with them.”
Messi had reached an agreement with Barcelona on reduced wages two years ago which was dependent on the club selling players due to financial regulations. The Catalan club couldn’t manage that in time, forcing Messi to leave his boyhood club where he won four Champions Leagues and 10 La Liga titles – plus six Ballon d’Or. The Argentine recently won the World Cup for the first time in his career and has scored 29 goals in 66 appearances for PSG. He also recently claimed his 1000th international goal and 800th career strike.
