(Football news) Garerth Bale’s Wales have had a pretty disappointing World Cup as they were knocked out in the group stages. They drew their first game against the USA before losing against Iran and England. At the centre of all this was captain Gareth Bale who will not be happy with his performance. He did get the only Wales’ goal from the penalty spot but apart from that he wasn’t really impactful. He didn’t look sharp or fit enough as he was taken off at half time against England in what is likely to have been Bale’s last one with Wales.

Along with him the likes of Aaron Ramsey and Joe Allen are also likely to hang up their boots. Bale will be 35 years old at the next Euros tournament but looking at his fitness levels it will be very difficult for him to continue playing international football. Bale has always unabashedly prioritised playing for Wales during his Real Madrid days and now with LAFC as well.

The year before the Euros when Bale was on loan at Tottenham Hotspur he clearly said that he only made the move to get fit for the Euros. After his contract expired with Madrid last season he said that he will look for the best option that will help him stay in the best possible shape for the World Cup. Unfortunately for him that didn’t happen as he started only twice for LAFC and the most minutes he played in a game was 62 minutes.

When we spoke to him, he had the possibility of playing for England. He said never say that again if you want to be my agent!

Gareth Bale’s agent Jonathan Barnett on his passion for Wales

Bale has been a legend for Wales and possibly the greatest Welsh player for all time. At club level he has been incredibly successful with Real Madrid. The winger took Wales to the Euros semi-final in 2016 and to the Euro 2020 Round of 16. Wales’ participation in the 2022 World Cup finals was their first since 1958. He always wanted to do well with Wales and he has managed to do that in his illustrious career. In 111 appearances for Wales he has 40 goals and 22 assists. It will be interesting to see what Bale does next in his career and if he does continue to play for Wales.
