Axar Patel in line to break 134 year old Test record of Charlie Turner

(Cricket news) In home conditions, the Indian spinners have been the backbone of the team. This is a result of the pitches' assistance as well as their abilities. In test matches, players like Harbhajan Singh and Anil Kumble have served as role models for numerous young cricketers. Axar Patel, Ravichandran Ashwin, and Ravindra Jadeja are among the current crop of spinners who have performed admirably in the red ball format.

Axar made his debut for the national team in an ODI against Bangladesh in 2014 in which he took a wicket and gave away 59 runs. A year later, he played his first international T20 match against Zimbabwe and received the man of the match for taking 3 wickets while giving away 17 runs in his spell. This year he made his Test against England where he took 2 wickets in the first innings and then went on to take three consecutive 5 wicket hauls. He almost took a fourth consecutive one but finished one wicket short. Axar finished the series with 27 wickets, in only his second match he grabbed 11 wickets as he picked up 6 wickets in the first innings and five in the next one.

The left arm spinner and handy batter down the order has been terrific in the test matches for the Indian team. Axar made his test debut in February 2021 and is currently playing against New Zealand. In only his 4th Test match, Axar Patel has secured 33 wickets. His most recent 5 wicket haul came against New Zealand in the 1st Test Match of the ongoing series. The fastest to 50 test wickets feat has been achieved by Charlie Turner way back in 1888 in 6 Test Matches. From the Indian team, Ravichandran Ashwin did it in 9 Test Matches. It is very much possible for Axar to break the record of Ashwin, if he maintains the same consistency.

Axar is the fourth highest wicket taker in Test matches this year as Ravichandran Ashwin and Shaheen Afridi are on top with 44 wickets each. Axar and Hasan Ali have been the leading list of the most five wicket haul in Test this year with 5 of them. In his first year in Test cricket, the 27 year old has been the most reliable bowler and will look to break many records next year.
