(Tennis news) The Australian Open is on the horizon and Emma Raducanu will begin the Grand Slam tournament against Tamara Korpatsch while Andy Murray will face Matteo Berrettini and Jack Draper will take on defending Australian Open champion Rafael Nadal. Raducanu appears to have recovered from the ankle injury she faced at the Auckland International and has drawn German world number 74 Korpatsch, who claimed her first WTA 125 title of her career in Budapest last September.

Defending champion Rafael Nadal is the top seed at the tournament and will take on British tennis player Jack Draper. The 21 year old appears to be in good form, defeating Karen Khachanov to reach the semi-finals of the Adelaide International. The same cannot be said for Nadal who is yet to win a match in 2023, losing six out of his last seven matches. Three time Grand Slam champion Andy Murray will take on 13th seed Matteo Berrettini, who reached the semi-final last year. Meanwhile, Cameron Norrie will take on wild card Luca Van Assche while 25th seed Dan Evans will meet Argentina’s Facundo Bagnis.

Heading into the Australian Open as a favourite, Novak Djokovic will face Roberto Carballes Baena while Nick Kyrgios will take on Roman Safiullin. In the women’s category, World No 1 Iga Swiatek will face a potentially tough opener against Wimbledon quarter-finalist Jule Niemeier. Ons Jabeur will aim to become the first African to win a Grand Slam title, but must defeat Tamara Zidansek. Former Australian Open champions Sofia Kenin and Victoria Azarenka will face each other in a blockbuster clash. Playing in the Australian Open for the first time since 2020, Kyle Edmund will meet 15th seed Jannik Sinner while Harriet Dart faces a tough match against 32nd seed Jil Teichmann.
