(Cricket news) Usman Khawaja and Cameron Green picked up exactly where they left off on day 3. India once again bowled well in patches but also leaked runs from time to time which was due to the quality of the Australian batters. Green reached his first international hundred as he scored 114 off 170 balls. The allrounder had a very strong defense and he didn’t let a single run scoring opportunity go by. The innings included a mammoth 18 boundaries and all of them of the highest quality. He was eventually dismissed after lunch by Ravichandran Ashwin. Alex Carey was dismissed in the same over for a duck while Ashwin also got rid of Mitchell Starc cheaply.

Usman Khawaja added more vital runs Australia in similar fashion. He was once again extremely patient and never looked uncomfortable at the crease. Axar Patel dismissed him for 180 runs on the very first ball after tea. Even though the conditions were good for batting, Khawaja’s innings was an absolute gem as he hit 21 fours. Australia’s tail started wagging which further frustrated the Indians. Todd Murphy managed to get 41 of 61 balls before getting dismissed by Ravichandran Ashwin. A couple of overs later Nathan Lyon was also dismissed for 34 off 96.

It wasn’t the best bowling performance by Ashwin but considering that the pitch was flat it was a gritty performance as he picked up his 32nd 5 wicket haul. He ended up with the figures of 6/91 which is really impressive given the conditions. Mohammed Shami got 2 scalps while Ravindra Jadeja and Axar Patel got a wicket each. Australia were bowled out for 480 runs which is a mammoth score. Indian openers Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma negotiated the remaining 10 overs comfortably as the day finished with India 36/0.
