Australia got a magnificent 43-run win at Lord's to pile the pressure on England

(Cricket news) Australia’s victory at Lord’s may have been overshadowed by Jonny Bairstow’s controversial runout but it was an astounding win nevertheless. Australia are now 2-0 up in the 5-match series and England are under a lot of pressure. The Aussies managed to get the victory despite the conditions being in England’s favor throughout the match. Ben Stokes won the toss on a cloudy morning and decided to bowl first. However, despite the tricky conditions Australia managed to get beyond the 400-run mark. England for most of the Test match had favorable conditions but still, there were little margins where Australia were just too good.

Steve Smith was named the player of the match for his excellent 110 off 184 balls in the first innings. It was the Australian vice-captain who set the tone for the entire match which put England on the back foot for 90 percent of the match. Both Usman Khawaja and David Warner played really well across the match in challenging conditions which allowed Australia to put such big totals on the board. Mitchell Starc coming back into the side showed his quality by picking up 6 wickets. It was his extra pace that proved to be so vital and after this performance, he has virtually made himself undroppable for the rest of the series.

England captain Ben Stokes almost pulled off something incredible. It was his 155 off 214 balls that kept England in the game for a long time. Even though it ended up being a losing cause, the innings was something truly special. Stokes showed once again why he is one of the most clutch players of all time. Josh Tongue in only his 2nd Test match picked up 5 wickets and bowled really well. He has given Stokes and Brendon McCullum a headache because if Moeen Ali does have to come back in the side then it will be very difficult to drop Tongue.
