Atletico are set to sign Sergio Regulion while Lodi moves to Forest

(Football news) La Liga giants Atletico Madrid are close to signing Tottenham defender Sergio Reguilon on loan without a purchase option in his contract. Reguilon joined Tottenham from Real Madrid in the summer of 2020 for a fee of £27 million and was rated very so highly that Los Blancos insisted on a buy-back clause in his Tottenham sale. He looked to be a stellar signing as he started his Tottenham career brightly and was soon a fan favourite for his bombing forward runs. However, he has fallen out of favour following the arrival of Antonio Conte, and a drop in his confidence meant that he has lost his form. The 25-year-old appeared less suited to Conte’s wing-back system and was notably wasteful with his final ball in his appearances last term. Regulion leaves Tottenham after making 67 appearances for Tottenham across all competitions, scoring two goals in the process.

Following the arrival of Ivan Perisic for free this summer, he has fallen further down the pecking order at Tottenham and was excluded from their pre-season squad when they went on tour to South Korea. Conte also had Reguilon training away from the Tottenham first team and told him to find a new club. A host of clubs across Europe were interested in signing the Tottenham defender, including the likes of Lazio, Napoli, Atalanta, Juventus, Fulham, Sevilla, and Nottingham Forest. However, Atletico Madrid made a concrete offer to snap up the Tottenham left-back, who has now set to play at the Wanda Metropolitano.

Although Atletico have agreed to take Reguilon on a season-long loan without a purchase option, with the player now set for a medical. Yannick Carrasco has been the first choice left wing-back over the previous two seasons for Diego Simeone, and Reguilon will either play in the playing XI or provide cover for the Rojiblancos, who are about to lose Renan Lodi to Nottingham Forest. The English club have been active in the transfer market for a left-back to cover for new summer signing Omar Richards and even they considered signing Reguilon but the 25-year-old was unconvinced to a move to the City Ground and wanted to return to Spain

Nottingham now look set to sign Lodi on an initial loan deal in a transfer domino effect. Tottenham are now concentrating their efforts this summer on trying to offload players who Antonio Conte deems surplus to requirements after effectively reinforcing the squad with six new summer signings. According to reports in Italy, Harry Winks is believed to be on the verge of a similar move to Sampdoria after he rejected a host of English clubs to go play in the Serie A.
