(Football news) Juan Ferrando faced his former side FC Goa in a bittersweet 2-1 win at the PJN Stadium in Fatorda on Wednesday. Goals from Liston Colaco in the 23rd minute, his fifth goal this season and Roy Krishna in the 56th minute were enough to secure three points for Ferrando’s side while Jorge Ortiz was the only goal scorer for FC Goa in the 81st minute. With this result, ATK Mohun Bagan finished third on the Indian Super League table with 14 points from eight matches while FC Goa remained eighth.
Devendra Murgaonkar’s early attempt tested Amrinder Singh but the goalkeeper managed to convincingly save the shot. ATK Mohun Bagan had the majority of the possession and were rewarded with a goal in the 23rd minute with some individual brilliance from Liston Colaco who got the ball on the left channel from the halfway mark. The 23 year old hit a screamer that swerved past the goalkeeper and into the back of the net. At the half hour mark, Amrinder was forced to make a good save from Jorge Ortiz’s freekick but with no real opportunities after that until the whistle for the first half, ATK Mohun Bagan had a deserving 1-0 lead at the break.
After the second half restarted, Ferrando’s team doubled their lead in the 56th minute as Roy Krishna found the back of the net after Hugo Boumous’ lob from the edge of the box. The game was all but won by ATK Mohun Bagan but a mistake by Amrinder Singh gifted FC Goa a goal in the 81st minute when Ortiz’s weak left footer was spilled by Amrinder and went into the back of the net. Despite the mistake, it was too little too late for FC Goa who couldn’t get an equalizer as ATK Mohun Bagan recorded a convincing victory.
ATK Mohun Bagan will next face Hyderabad FC on January 5th at the Fatorda Stadium while FC Goa will take on Kerala Blasters on 2nd January at the Tilak Maidan.
