(Football news) Aston Villa had a perfect home record going into the match, but they had only won two of their six Premier League away games this season before they travelled to North London. When Giovani Lo Celso put Spurs ahead in the first half, Aston Villa appeared headed for a fourth consecutive loss. However, Pau Torres equalised just before halftime.

With an amazing victory over one of their contenders for Champions League qualifying, Ollie Watkins completed the turnaround in the second half, netting his eighth goal in the top flight this season. Aston Villa now lie in fourth place in the standings, two points behind leaders Arsenal, following their victory at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Emery could not contain his pride in the way his Villa players followed his game plan and earned another crucial three points, even though he is unlikely to be overly impressed with the outcome and performance.

Emery said: “Three points, it was an amazing match, both teams different ways tactically but really hard, really tough.

“They created chances, we created chances. We were efficient and clinical in the attack. I enjoyed it, but I lost all my energy.

“Each match is three points, but of course Tottenham were one point ahead of us and they are strong with their fans. It is very difficult. We are getting something in the way we are building.

“After the work we did on Friday, yesterday, this morning, we were very focused on the match. Analysing, preparing and focusing on each match. The players played in the gameplan were prepared and they were successful.”

On December 3, Villa will play their next Premier League match when they travel to the South Coast to take on Bournemouth.

Prior to that, Villa will host Legia Warsaw in the Europa Conference League, knowing that a two-goal victory would guarantee first place in Group E with one game remaining.
