Vandana Katariya’s hat-trick gives Indian women’s hockey team a chance at quarter-finals at the Tokyo Olympics

(Hockey news) Olympic 2021 Live Update: Indian women’s hockey team defeated South Africa 4-3 to improve their chances of making it to the quarter-finals at the Tokyo Olympics. The Indian team opened their scoring early in the game when Vandana Katariya found the back of the net in the fourth minute of play. However, South Africa equalized in the last minute of the first quarter and despite India challenging the goal with a review, the goal was given.

Vandana’s good form continued as she found her second for the game in the opening minutes of the second quarter but as luck would have had it, South Africa once again levelled the scoring in the final minutes of Q2 to make the score 2-2. The Indian team, being well aware that they must win this fixture to stand a chance for the quarter-finals once again found the back of the net early in the third quarter thanks to Neha but the trend continued when South Africa cancelled out the goal 5 minutes before the end of Q3 to make the score 3-3.

With just 10 minutes left to play, Vandana Katariya completed her hat-trick to give India a slender advantage and this time the defense did not give in to allow South Africa to score, resulting in India defeating South Africa 4-3 at the end of the match.
