Delhi Capitals looking at a safe passage into the playoffs in Indian Premier League

(Cricket news) Delhi Capitals are on a high this season at the Indian Premier League with four victories in their last five matches. They are in second place with 16 points in 11 matches and are riding their luck into UAE with three more matches to go. Delhi and Chennai Super Kings are the only teams to have won more than 7 matches so far.

Shikhar Dhawan is leading the run charts this season with 454 runs in 11 matches, Prithvi Shaw has 329 runs in 11 matches and Skipper Rishabh Pant with 311 runs as their top order batsmen have kept the run flow in excess. Shreyas Iyer is also back in form as he has scored 91 runs in the second phase so far and Steve Smith looked to be in good shape against Kolkata Knight Riders. They have managed to keep the batsmen in the crease as their top five have not been surrendered in eight matches and not once have they been all out.

Avesh Khan has been the star bowler this season for Delhi Capitals as he has picked up 18 wickets in 11 matches and is soon to be third bowler after Morne Morkel and Kagiso Rabada to pick up 20 or more wickets for Delhi in IPL. Rabada has been the top bowler for Delhi Capitals since 2019 and continues to be a partnership breaker, he has one of the best strike rates in IPL with 13.86 and has taken 13 wickets in 11 matches so far.

Anrich Nortje came into the team in the second phase of the league and has taken 5 wickets in three matches but has given away just 45 runs in 62 balls which has been a huge factor in the last three matches. He has bowled the third fastest ball this season and the team’s pacers Avesh, Rabada and Anrich have been bowling over 140 km/hour which makes this trio deadly. The bowlers have dismissed the top five batsmen in nine matches as only Royal Challengers Bangalore and Punjab Kings have managed to lose not more than 5 wickets against Delhi Capitals that only once.

The spinners have also played their part for the team as Axar Patel leads with 9 wickets in seven matches and Amit Mishra taking six wickets in four matches. Mishra has the most wickets for a spinner in IPL with 166 wickets and also has three hat tricks which is the most by any bowler.

Their bowling department has been unbelievable with their raw pace while their batting has seen three players score more than 300 runs. Shikhar Dhawan has the chance to become the first batsman to score more than 700 runs in a season for Delhi as Rishabh Pant came close in 2018 when he finished with 684 runs. They will play their next match against Mumbai Indians on 2nd October as the last time these two teams met, Amit Mishra led the attack with four wickets while giving away 24 runs in a low scoring contest. Delhi Capitals are searching for a first IPL trophy and need to play a few more good games to confirm their place into the playoffs.
