(Football news) The Champions League came back with a bang. Young Boys caused a major upset while Bayern Munich asserted their dominance over Barcelona. Chelsea on the other hand grabbed a narrow 1-0 win against Zenit St. Petersburg.
Swiss champions Young Boys defeated 10-man Manchester United. This was the first time that the Swiss club had beaten an English opponent. It all started perfectly for The Red Devils when Cristiano Ronaldo scored his third goal in two games to put the visitors in front. The tide changed when Aaron Wan Bissaka was shown a straight red card for a rough tackle on Christopher Martins. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer made two very suspicious changes and Manchester United dropped any attacking intent. Moumi Ngamaleu equalised for the home side. Solskjaer once again made a negative substitution by taking off Cristiano Ronaldo for Jesse Lingard which meant Manchester United had no forwards on the pitch.
All this while the United players continued to struggle as Young Boys made utmost use of their one man advantage. Just when the English team looked to have settled for a poin,t Lingard tried to play a pass back to David De Gea but instead gave it away to Theoson Siebatcheu who scored the last minute winner. Manchester United seem to be reliving their group stage failure from last season. Solskjaer has a huge task ahead of him to get their European campaign back on track starting on 30th September against their familiar foe Villarreal. Young Boys couldn't have hoped for a better start. A qualification into the knockouts would be a realistic possibility if they can get a result against Atalanta in the next week.

Defending Champions Chelsea started their campaign just where they left off with a 1-0 against Zenit. Romelu Lukaku once again got himself on the scoresheet. Cesar Azpilicueta set up Lukaku's goal just like he did against Aston Villa on Saturday. It wasn't the most convincing performance by Thomas Tuchel's men who were let off the hook a few times by the Russian club. Romelu Lukaku displayed his incredible hold up play once again, thereby showing that he is at Chelsea to succeed. The Blues play away at Juventus next up where Lukaku could be very key because of his spell with Inter Milan.
Barcelona re-lived their nightmare against Bayern Munich this time in their home stadium. Bayern Munich put 3 past Barcelona but the scoreline doesn't do justice to Barcelona's poor and lackluster performance. Bayern Munich throughout the match were more than comfortable. Thomas Muller opened the scoring in the 34th minute while Robert Lewandowski added two more in the 2nd half. For the first time in their UCL history, Barcelona failed to register a single shot on target. Memphis Depay had absolutely no support up front while new signing Luuk De Jong looked completely out of place. The Blaugrana were simply outclassed to show that the road ahead is going to be a long and painful one for them. The Catalans face Benfica away from home and anything less than 3 points will be a massive problem for Ronald Koeman. Bayern Munich on the other hand look like a team on a mission under new manager Julian Nagelsmann. It would be no surprise if their next game against Dynamo Kiev is an out and out goal fest.
