Andros Townsend screamer inspires Everton comeback against Burnley

(Football news) Everton have had a great start to life under Rafa Benitez. The Toffees are joint top of the Premier League table and are yet to lose a game this season. Burnley on the other hand are in the relegation zone having got only 1 point.

Sean Dyche's team dominated the first half but neither team got any clear cut chances. The second half was in the balance before Ben Mee scored to give Burnley the lead. It took Everton only 7 minutes to equalise as an unmarked Michael Keane scored the header from Andros Townsend's cross.

Everton then scored twice in the next 2 minutes to change the course of the game. Andros Townsend scored a screamer to give Everton the lead and moments later Demarai Gray scored for the third consecutive match. Burnley under Dyche is known for their defensive discipline but that wasn't on show as Burnley were very poor on the day.

Poor marking and lack of pressing cost Burnley the 3 points. Burnley always seem to find a way to stay in the Premier League as they have done for the past 5 seasons. The next step would be to push to the top half of the table and eventually towards a European place. The climb isn't happening at the moment and if they don't get their season back on track they might fall a few steps backwards.

Rafa Benitez on the other hand has won over the Everton fans already and now the key for the Spaniard and his team is to continue on the path. Everton fans are used to having good starts to the season but they tend to struggle when the fixtures start to come hard and fast just like last season. The bad news is that Dominic Calvert-Lewin is set to be out with an injury for a few weeks which will be a concern for Everton. Benitez will be hoping that Richarlison could lead the line with support from Gray and Townsend.
