Arsenal will play PSV in the UEL

Champions League dead-rubber between PSV Eindhoven and Arsenal will mark the conclusion of their respective successful Group B seasons at the Philips Stadion
Arsenal

(Football news) The Gunners, in particular, have an incentive to make up for some recent wrongs in the Netherlands. Both teams have already qualified for the last-16 draw: Arsenal as group winners and the hosts as runners-up.

PSV was no stranger to stunning comebacks against the reigning Europa League champions Sevilla; in October, the Dutch giants pulled off a thrilling victory over the Spanish team thanks to an injury-time equalizer from Jordan Teze. However, on the penultimate matchday, the team went one step further to secure their seed in the round of sixteen.

Sevilla’s hopes of progressing were dashed by an own goal from Nemanja Gudelj, a header from Ricardo Pepi in injury time, and goals from Sergio Ramos and Youssef En-Nesyri, but it was all in vain as Ismael Saibari, Ricardo Pepi, and Bosz and company confirmed PSV’s second-place finish.

PSV’s eight points could still be matched by Lens, but the Rood-witten’s progression to the next round is guaranteed because of their stronger head-to-head record against the French team. Bosz’s team still needs to perform at their best when it comes to their Eredivisie heroics.

In fact, PSV made it 15 victories from 15 top-flight games in the Netherlands on Thursday, defeating Heerenveen 2-0 at home behind goals in each half from Guus Til and Pepi. This victory kept Bosz’s unstoppable charges 10 points clear of Feyenoord at the top of the rankings.

Not a single one of the hosts’ competitive games at Philips Stadion in 2023 has ended in defeat, but it’s no contest to guess who PSV’s most recent loss came against. That easy victory also marked Rood-witten’s eighth straight triumph in all competitions.
